I have the habit of not knowing what to do. It’s actually a paralyzing fear of blank pages, but that’s a story for another day. So to combat this I do some “automatic drawing” basically the surrealist/dadaist practice of not paying attention and scribbling out some shapes in one continuous line on the page. The collaboration comes in when I give the automatic drawings over to my wife to design with color. As seen above, I did some with text and a known pattern. But as seen below they’re much more interesting when I’m not trying to create something recognizable.

I feel like there’s more in another book somewhere. But I digress. I really like making these. It’s fun to see what happens when I relinquish complete control and let someone else take over. It’s freeing. I stop worrying about everything being so damn perfect. Kind of nice.
